Last Sunday evening I ran into a cousin who I have not seen for many years so we greeted each other as long lost friends as we wanted to catch up on all that’s been happening . She looked a bit forlorn so I asked what was troubling her . She told me that her tailor of 20 years had passed away the previous week and she had no idea on where she was going to get her clothes stitched . In India having a family tailor is still treasured and a subject of many discussions between well heeled women as a tailor’s reputation is by word of mouth and they are shared between friends . Literally a whole world apart we have robots taking over so many of our functions . Almost every sector of business is going to be revolutionised by AI , especially in production . Here is an article that I came across just this morning on how Technology is changing the world around us . Read on ….

Adidas’s pop-up shop uses sensors and lasers to build custom clothes

German athletic-wear Adidas is testing out a new way to attract customers and keep up with trends. The company has launched a pop-up store in Berlin that will scan your body, design you a custom sweater, knit it for you in the store, and have it ready in four hours.

While the store is just temporary, the move is part of a bigger push by the company to compete with its rivals.

The store is called Knit For You and it’s located in a shopping centre in Berlin, Germany. Inside the store, customers can design their own sweater, which is made out of merino wool and costs $215. Customers can pick up a standard size sweater or go for a laser body scan so it is custom fitted.

To pick the design, customers will go into a dark room and stand in the middle of an illuminated box. Different patterns will be projected on the chest. The patterns can be moved around on the sweater using hand gestures, which are picked up by sensors.

Customers will be able to try out several options, then look at them all later on a monitor. It’s also pos sible to test out different colours by putting swatches on the high tech gadget. The sweaters are knit ted on machines right in the store.
